Still remember the first time I rode a horse. Well, it's more like a pony. 21-year old Mickey from Teen Ranch Scotland, Perth. Truth be told, I didn't really want to tell my parents about it, cos I know they'll be shocked, but I just couldn't hide anything from them..
Come to think of it, this was probably my 2nd ride. The 1st was bareback on another pony x - quite cool and scary at the same time =) I mean, how often does anyone get to ride bareback anymore? Feels so much like those country western shows hahaha. Then again, it wasn't that comfortable lol.. Anyway, back to the main story:
It was either the 1st or 2nd day at TRC. I believe it was the 1st ride that we're following not on foot but on horseback. I was 3rd from behind; Tiff 2nd from behind. Everything was going smoothly till the time we're going back. The white cowboy hat from the girl in front of me blew off and that started it >.<
Mickey got spooked and started rearing up, I of course became unbalanced by this and started sliding/falling to the left of Mickey. And for reasons I'll never know I actually hold on tighter to the reigns >.< I probably thought I could pull myself up or something.. So stupid.. Or maybe it's just instincts.. I think this spooked him even more and he kept rearing up and down, up and down. Damn, I felt so much like a ragdoll everytime I hit the ground... My limbs flailing around, no control over my body, just getting dragged across the field by him =,=XXX... I think my back hit the ground at least 3 times, after that I just lost count..
You know how people always say your life flashes by when you're in a life or death situation? Well it didn't happen to me. I just kept thinking, I hope my helmet's not gonna fall off and the stupid pony isn't going to stomp on me, cracking and crushing my skull >.< Didn't want my life to end that way at all....
Finally, I don't know why but I let go of the reigns... I thought I was free from this torment, but it actually lasted longer than that!? >.< My left foot got stuck in the stirrups and it won't come off. Now I definitely have no control whatsoever of my body =,=.... I pratically surrendered myself to fate... /.\ Later I was told that the stirrups was suppose to come off during emergencies.. But. It. Didn't.. Most likely cos it's too stiff.. Dang... It eventually did after what seemed like ages -.-....
I think everyone else who saw me was totally shocked. My friend especially... I believe a miracle happened that day.. Because apart from a now dirty hoodie, I came out completely unscathed @.@ Somehow, I was totally safe... I'll have to thank my lucky stars for this, or maybe I do have a guardian angel lol.. Luckily I didn't develop a phobia against horses and I was able to complete my 2-week placement.. Though I got stomped on my right foot twice, and the bruise didn't disappear for at least 1 year =.=
Maybe it was a good thing I'm not a screamer, cos I'm pretty sure I would've made everyone else panic.. especially that stupid pony. Then again, it could be a bit eerie for them to not hear me screaming at all.. Probably thought I fainted or something..
Certainly is the closest thing I'll ever experience to a life-or-death situation. It does make good story-telling though lol, but I hope it'll never ever happen again. Well, it probably won't because I'm not too keen on riding anymore, unless it's absolutely necessary... I swear I'll never put myself in such a situation anymore.. It's just too dangerous..
